Prompt atmospheric neutrino fluxes: perturbative QCD models and nuclear effects
We evaluate the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux at high energies using three
different frameworks for calculating the heavy quark production cross section
in QCD: NLO perturbative QCD, factorization including low-
resummation, and the dipole model including parton saturation. We use QCD
parameters, the value for the charm quark mass and the range for the
factorization and renormalization scales that provide the best description of
the total charm cross section measured at fixed target experiments, at RHIC and
at LHC. Using these parameters we calculate differential cross sections for
charm and bottom production and compare with the latest data on forward charm
meson production from LHCb at TeV and at TeV, finding good agreement
with the data. In addition, we investigate the role of nuclear shadowing by
including nuclear parton distribution functions (PDF) for the target air
nucleus using two different nuclear PDF schemes. Depending on the scheme used,
we find the reduction of the flux due to nuclear effects varies from to
at the highest energies. Finally, we compare our results with the
IceCube limit on the prompt neutrino flux, which is already providing valuable
information about some of the QCD models.Comment: 61 pages, 25 figures, 11 table
Jet quenching in shock waves
We study the propagation of an ultrarelativistic light quark jet inside a
shock wave using the holographic principle. The maximum stopping distance and
its dependency on the energy of the jet is obtained
Extracting the Distribution Amplitudes of the rho meson from the Color Glass Condensate
We extract the leading twist-2 and subleading twist-3 Distribution Amplitudes
(DAs) of the rho meson using the HERA data on diffractive rho photoproduction.
We do so using several Colour Glass Condensate (CGC) inspired and a Regge
inspired dipole models. We find that our extracted twist-2 DA is not much model
dependent and is consistent with QCD Sum Rules and lattice predictions. The
extracted twist-3 DA is more model dependent but is still consistent with the
Sum Rules prediction.Comment: 21 pages, 10 figures, 3 tables. Section 6 revised, figures 8 and 9

Long-Range Rapidity Correlations in Heavy Ion Collisions at Strong Coupling from AdS/CFT
We use AdS/CFT correspondence to study two-particle correlations in heavy ion
collisions at strong coupling. Modeling the colliding heavy ions by shock waves
on the gravity side, we observe that at early times after the collision there
are long-range rapidity correlations present in the two-point functions for the
glueball and the energy-momentum tensor operators. We estimate rapidity
correlations at later times by assuming that the evolution of the system is
governed by ideal Bjorken hydrodynamics, and find that glueball correlations in
this state are suppressed at large rapidity intervals, suggesting that
late-time medium dynamics can not "wash out" the long-range rapidity
correlations that were formed at early times. These results may provide an
insight on the nature of the "ridge" correlations observed in heavy ion
collision experiments at RHIC and LHC, and in proton-proton collisions at LHC.Comment: 32 pages, 2 figures; v2: typos corrected, references adde
Probing Shadowed Nuclear Sea with Massive Gauge Bosons in the Future Heavy-Ion Collisions
The production of the massive bosons and could provide an
excellent tool to study cold nuclear matter effects and the modifications of
nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) relative to parton distribution
functions (PDFs) of a free proton in high energy nuclear reactions at the LHC
as well as in heavy-ion collisions (HIC) with much higher center-of mass
energies available in the future colliders. In this paper we calculate the
rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of the vector boson and their
nuclear modification factors in p+Pb collisions at TeV and in
Pb+Pb collisions at TeV in the framework of perturbative QCD
by utilizing three parametrization sets of nPDFs: EPS09, DSSZ and nCTEQ. It is
found that in heavy-ion collisions at such high colliding energies, both the
rapidity distribution and the transverse momentum spectrum of vector bosons are
considerably suppressed in wide kinematic regions with respect to p+p reactions
due to large nuclear shadowing effect. We demonstrate that in the massive
vector boson productions processes with sea quarks in the initial-state may
give more contributions than those with valence quarks in the initial-state,
therefore in future heavy-ion collisions the isospin effect is less pronounced
and the charge asymmetry of W boson will be reduced significantly as compared
to that at the LHC. Large difference between results with nCTEQ and results
with EPS09 and DSSZ is observed in nuclear modifications of both rapidity and
distributions of and in the future HIC.Comment: 13 pages, 21 figures, version accepted for publication in Eur. Phys.

Resummation in nonlinear equation for high energy factorizable gluon density and its extension to include coherence
Motivated by forthcoming p-Pb experiments at Large Hadron Collider which
require both knowledge of gluon densities accounting for saturation and for
processes at a wide range of we study basic momentum space evolution
equations of high energy QCD factorization. Solutions of those equations might
be used to form a set of gluon densities to calculate observables in
generalized high energy factorization. Moreover in order to provide a framework
for predictions for exclusive final states in p-Pb scattering with high
we rewrite the equation for the high energy factorizable gluon density in a
resummed form, similarly to what has been done in \cite{Kutak:2011fu} for the
BK equation. The resummed equation is then extended to account for colour
coherence. This introduces an external scale to the evolution of the gluon
density, and therefore makes it applicable in studies of final states.Comment: 14 pages, appendix added, accepted for publication in JHE
On the Energy Dependence of the Dipole-Proton Cross Section in Deep Inelastic Scattering
We study the dipole picture of high-energy virtual-photon-proton scattering.
It is shown that different choices for the energy variable in the dipole cross
section used in the literature are not related to each other by simple
arguments equating the typical dipole size and the inverse photon virtuality,
contrary to what is often stated. We argue that the good quality of fits to
structure functions that use Bjorken-x as the energy variable - which is
strictly speaking not justified in the dipole picture - can instead be
understood as a consequence of the sign of scaling violations that occur for
increasing Q^2 at fixed small x. We show that the dipole formula for massless
quarks has the structure of a convolution. From this we obtain derivative
relations between the structure function F_2 at large and small Q^2 and the
dipole-proton cross section at small and large dipole size r, respectively.Comment: 27 page
Holographic phase diagram of quark-gluon plasma formed in heavy-ions collisions
The phase diagram of quark gluon plasma (QGP) formed at a very early stage
just after the heavy ion collision is obtained by using a holographic dual
model for the heavy ion collision. In this dual model colliding ions are
described by the charged shock gravitational waves. Points on the phase diagram
correspond to the QGP or hadronic matter with given temperatures and chemical
potentials. The phase of QGP in dual terms is related to the case when the
collision of shock waves leads to formation of trapped surface. Hadronic matter
and other confined states correspond to the absence of trapped surface after
collision.
Multiplicity of the ion collision process is estimated in the dual language
as area of the trapped surface. We show that a non-zero chemical potential
reduces the multiplicity. To plot the phase diagram we use two different dual
models of colliding ions, the point and the wall shock waves, and find
qualitative agreement of the results.Comment: 33 pages, 14 figures, typos correcte
Colliding AdS gravitational shock waves in various dimensions and holography
The formation of marginally trapped surfaces in the off-center collision of
two shock waves on AdS_D (with D=4,5,6,7 and 8) is studied numerically. We
focus on the case when the two waves collide with nonvanishing impact parameter
while the sources are located at the same value of the holographic coordinate.
In all cases a critical value of the impact parameter is found above which no
trapped surface is formed. The numerical results show the existence of a simple
scaling relation between the critical impact parameter and the energy of the
colliding waves. Using the isometries of AdS_D we relate the solutions obtained
to the ones describing the collision of two waves with a purely holographic
impact parameter. This provides a gravitational dual for the head-on collision
of two lumps of energy of unequal size.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figures. v2: minor changes, typos corrected. To appear
